No valid admit card means no entry to the GATE exam hall, full stop, regardless of preparation. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 admit card is the exam's single most important document. It is what gets a candidate past the gate on exam day. IIT Madras, this year's organizing institute, releases it only after the application correction window closes. Lakhs of candidates across India, plus a few international centers, register for GATE each year. The admit card must be downloaded from the official GOAPS portal (GATE Online Application Processing System). It works as proof of registration and confirms the exam city, date and shift assigned to each candidate.
These figures give a quick snapshot of the GATE 2027 admit card before the full detail below.

The GATE 2027 admit card release date has not been officially announced yet. Going by past years, GATE admit cards are usually released in January, about three weeks before the February exam dates. This year's exam dates are confirmed as 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027. The admit card is released only after the correction window closes and the city and session allotment are finalized internally.
Admit card release date: still TBA
The GATE 2027 exam city allotment notification is confirmed for 4 January 2027. One source hints this date could also cover the admit card, but that has not been independently confirmed as the admit card's own release date. Treat the admit card release as not yet officially announced, expected in January 2027 per the usual pattern, until the GATE website confirms it.
The official date is not out yet, so candidates should track the GATE 2027 website directly for the notice. Past-year data points to a release about three weeks before the first exam date. That would place the release in January 2027. The release always follows an official notice on the GATE website, never an unofficial source.

Expected January 2027 (TBA)
Admit card released on GOAPS
Final admit card with venue, reporting time and paper code becomes downloadable.
Up to exam day
Download stays open
Candidates can keep redownloading the admit card right up to their exam date.
The Advance City Intimation is a separate, preliminary document, not the final admit card. It tells a candidate only the allotted exam city, not the venue or reporting time. In past years, it was released a few weeks before the admit card, around December. The exact GATE 2027 date is not confirmed yet. It is downloaded from GOAPS using the same login credentials as the admit card. The exact center address becomes available only once the final admit card is released.
Candidates can raise a request with the helpdesk if the allotted city seems wrong or inconvenient. This must happen within the stated deadline. After that deadline, the city generally cannot be changed and carries forward to the final admit card. City changes are not entertained once the admit card itself is released.
The GATE 2027 admit card can only be downloaded from the official GOAPS portal, not from any other site.
Follow these eight steps once the admit card is officially released on GOAPS.
Download a few days early
Avoid shared or public computers for the download. Download and print the admit card a few days before the exam, not on the night before.
Check the internet connection first, then try these fixes in order: refresh the browser, clear the browser cache, switch to a different browser, or contact the GATE helpdesk with enrolment details if the page still fails to load.
The GATE 2027 admit card download link is only valid on the official GOAPS portal. Third-party or unofficial sites carry a data risk and may show incorrect or outdated versions.
The link goes live on the GOAPS portal itself, under the official GATE 2027 website, once the release date arrives. Candidates should bookmark the official GATE 2027 page now. They should check it directly for the download link, rather than searching elsewhere.
The GATE 2027 admit card carries nine key details, and each one needs a careful check on download.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Candidate's Name | As entered during registration |
| Registration/Enrolment ID | Unique ID assigned to the candidate |
| Photograph and Signature | As uploaded during the application |
| GATE Paper Code | Subject or paper opted for |
| Exam Date and Session | Specific date and shift (forenoon or afternoon) |
| Exam Center Details | Name, address and reporting time of the venue |
| Reporting and Gate Closing Time | Time before which a candidate must enter |
| Important Instructions | Rules to be followed on exam day |
| Space for Thumb Impression | To be filled during the exam as instructed |
Every field in the table above needs verification the moment the admit card is downloaded. The paper code deserves extra attention, since it cannot be changed on exam day. Any incorrect detail should go to the official helpdesk or the zonal IIT/IISc office, never a self-correction.
Do not damage the barcode or QR code
The admit card carries a unique barcode or QR code used for verification and attendance. Avoid folding, laminating or damaging it before the exam.
The admit card alone is not sufficient for entry. Every candidate also needs a valid original photo ID that matches their registration details, not a photocopy.
Any one of these five original documents is accepted, along with the printed admit card.
| Accepted ID Proof (any one, original only) |
|---|
| Aadhaar Card (with photograph) |
| PAN Card |
| Passport |
| Voter ID Card |
| Driving License |
A printed colour copy of the admit card is compulsory alongside the ID. Digital copies and black-and-white printouts are not accepted at the center.
Some documents apply only to specific candidates:
Candidates should keep photocopies of all documents in a separate folder. Those travelling from another city may carry a second valid ID as a backup, which helps but is not required.
GATE 2027 exam day rules fall into two groups. Mandatory rules decide entry, and general tips make the day smoother.
Reach the exam center 60 to 90 minutes before the reporting time, to allow for verification.
Check the latest dress code and permitted-items list before leaving home, since minor updates are possible each year.
Practice with the official GATE mock test beforehand to get familiar with the virtual on-screen calculator.
The eight rules above are compulsory, and breaking any one of them can cost a candidate their attempt. Missing the admit card, a valid ID or the gate closing time each lead straight to denied entry.
Candidates should reach 60 to 90 minutes before the reporting time printed on the admit card. This window allows enough time for the ID check, biometric verification and seating, all well before the gate closing time.
Most GATE admit card problems have a straightforward fix, listed against each issue below.
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Unable to log in to GOAPS portal | Recheck the Enrolment ID or Email and password, use "Forgot Password" if needed |
| Admit card not showing on portal | Wait for the official release date, contact the helpdesk if it persists |
| Incorrect photograph or signature | Contact the GATE helpdesk immediately with proof of the correct details |
| Wrong exam center or paper code printed | Report it to the organizing institute's helpdesk without delay |
| PDF file not downloading or corrupted | Try a different browser or device, and check for a stable internet connection |
| Printout unclear or faded | Redownload and reprint using a good quality colour printer |
| Portal slow due to heavy traffic | Try downloading during non-peak hours, such as early morning |
| Admit card shows outdated category or details | Cross check with the application form data, inform the helpdesk if it still differs |
This usually means the official release date has not arrived yet, so the first step is simply to wait. If the admit card still does not appear after the release date, contact the GATE helpdesk. Share the enrolment number when reaching out.
Keep helpdesk details ready
Keep a screenshot of any error along with the registration number handy. Note down the helpdesk email and phone number in advance, before an issue comes up.
