JEE Main 2027 exam registration will be conducted online by the National Testing Agency (NTA). You should look out for the official 2027 exam notification if you are seeking admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture/planning programs at top central universities in India. Every year, lakhs of students register for JEE Main. The application process is an important first step for anyone targeting NITs, IIITs and other participating institutions.
As of 13 October 2026, NTA has not announced the official JEE Main 2027 registration dates. NTA's examination calendar lists the Session 1 exam on 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30 January 2027 (tentative), so Session 1 registration has to be completed before that. Based on the schedule followed in recent years, Session 1 registration is likely to open toward the end of 2026. The registration dates are only indicative until NTA releases the official notification. JEE Main is also used as the qualifying examination for students who want to appear for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to the IITs.
JEE Main 2027 registration dates not yet announced
As of 13 October 2026NTA has not opened JEE Main 2027 registration. Its examination calendar lists the Session 1 exam from 22 January 2027 (tentative). The 2026 Information Bulletin remains the latest official reference for how the process works.
View the 2026 Information BulletinMake sure to use the official JEE Main website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, for the final schedule, application form, Information Bulletin and other official updates.
Since NTA is yet to announce the official JEE Main 2027 registration details, you can get an idea from how the JEE Main 2026 cycle ran. JEE Main registration generally opens several months before the first session of the examination. For JEE Main 2026, for instance, NTA opened the Session 1 application process in October 2025.
If a similar schedule is followed for 2027, you can expect the Session 1 application form around October-November 2026. The exact date, however, will depend entirely on NTA's official announcement.

JEE Main is broadly divided into three papers.
Paper 1 - B.E./B.Tech: This paper is meant for you if you are seeking admission to undergraduate engineering and technology programs. Paper 1 is conducted in the computer-based test mode.
It covers:
Paper 2A - B.Arch: If you are interested in Bachelor of Architecture programs, appear for Paper 2A. The paper covers the following areas:
Paper 2B - B.Planning: Paper 2B is for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate planning programs and includes Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning-related questions.
Please check the exact syllabus, marking scheme and examination pattern for JEE Main 2027 in the official Information Bulletin once NTA releases it.
Eligibility is one of the first things you should check before registering. NTA specifies the eligibility conditions for every JEE Main examination cycle. These can include the following criteria:
The eligibility criteria are subject to change every year. You must read the official 2027 guidelines for final confirmation once NTA releases them.
Note: Being eligible to appear for JEE Main and being eligible for admission to a particular institute or course are not always the same thing.
For admission to NITs, IIITs and other participating Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, the prevailing eligibility rules require you to have either at least 75% marks in Class 12/equivalent examination or to be within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in the respective board. For category candidates, the minimum qualifying marks requirement is 65%. These requirements apply in addition to the JEE Main rank and other admission conditions.
You must also have the prescribed subject combination in Class 12 for the program you want to join. For example, for B.E./B.Tech, Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with one of Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a Technical Vocational subject. Different subject requirements may apply to B.Arch and B.Planning, as well.
The top-20-percentile cut-off is not a fixed percentage. It is calculated separately for different boards and categories, and JoSAA publishes the relevant cut-off marks. For 2026, JoSAA has published category-wise top-20-percentile cut-offs for the IITs and NIT+ system.
Since the JEE Main 2027 admission rules have not yet been released, you should treat the above as the current framework rather than a confirmed 2027 rule. The final eligibility conditions will be given in the JoSAA 2027 Business Rules and the relevant NTA/JEE Main 2027 documents.
The following table is an indicative timeline based on the 2026 cycle, not an official 2027 schedule. You can use it to get a sense of the usual JEE Main timeline, from online registration to the examination date.

In 2026, Session 1 applications were accepted from October 31 to November 27, 2025, while Session 2 applications were accepted from February 1 to February 25, 2026. So, if you are targeting JEE Main 2027, keep your documents and identity details ready now instead of waiting for the application window to open.
The registration process can broadly be understood in four stages: creating your account, filling in the application, uploading documents and completing fee payment. Find the detailed, step-by-step registration process below:
Go to the official JEE Main website and look for the registration/application link once NTA activates it. Do not rely on links received through WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels or random websites. Education portals can help you understand the process, but the actual application should be completed through the NTA JEE Main portal.
New candidates will generally have to create an account by providing basic information. Here are the details NTA expects you to provide when registering as a new candidate:
| Information | What you should keep ready |
|---|---|
| Candidate's name | As per the required identity/academic record |
| Date of birth | Correct and matching supporting records |
| Gender | As applicable |
| Mobile number | Active number belonging to you or parent/guardian |
| Email ID | Active email checked regularly |
| Identity details | Aadhaar or another permitted identity method, as applicable |
| Password | Create and securely save it |
NTA specifically instructed candidates in 2026 to provide their own or their parents'/guardians' mobile number and email ID because official communication would be sent through those channels. Avoid using a temporary email address or a phone number with no incoming services or that you may stop using. Your application number, OTPs and important examination communication may depend on these details.
NTA may use OTP-based verification and identity authentication. The 2026 application system included enhanced identity and security measures such as Aadhaar-based e-KYC, AI-based face comparison and live photograph comparison. Aadhaar/DigiLocker e-KYC was the default verification route for JEE Main 2026 (including Session 2), but it was not strictly mandatory: candidates who registered without Aadhaar could instead submit a Photo Verification Certificate, signed and stamped by their school or college principal, by NTA's specified deadline. This is one reason to make sure your Aadhaar and other identity information is up to date before registration, and, if you don't have Aadhaar, to submit the Photo Verification Certificate on time instead.
After registration, you will need to complete the application form. Typical information includes:
| Section | Examples of information |
|---|---|
| Personal details | Name, date of birth, gender |
| Parent/guardian details | Father's/mother's/guardian's name and other required details |
| Contact details | Mobile number, email, address |
| Category | General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, etc. |
| PwD/PwBD information | Applicable disability-related details |
| Nationality | As applicable |
| State of eligibility | Relevant state information |
| Examination details | Paper, medium and examination cities |
One important point from the 2026 process was that some information could be fetched or authenticated through Aadhaar, while details such as the parent/guardian's name still had to be provided separately.
This is probably the part you should prepare before the registration window opens.
Based on the 2026 requirements, candidates were required to keep photographs, signatures, Class 10 documentation and identity-related documents ready. Additional certificates were required where applicable.
| Document | 2027 advice |
|---|---|
| Recent photograph | Keep a recent clear photograph ready |
| Signature | Scan a clean signature |
| Class 10 certificate/marksheet | Keep a clear PDF |
| Identity proof | Keep Aadhaar/approved ID ready |
| PwD/PwBD/UDID certificate | Keep updated certificate ready |
| Category information | Ensure certificate is valid and updated |
The exact specifications for JEE Main 2027 should be checked against the final NTA bulletin because file sizes, formats and authentication requirements are subject to change. The 2026 guidelines were particularly strict about photographs. The photograph had to show the candidate's face clearly, with the prescribed visibility and file specifications. NTA also introduced live-photograph and identity-comparison measures in 2026. So a simple, recent and clear photograph is the safest option.
The JEE Main 2027 fee has not been officially announced yet. For your reference, the 2026 fee structure for examination centers in India was as follows:
| Paper combination | General male | General female | EWS/OBC-NCL male | EWS/OBC-NCL female | SC/ST/PwD/PwBD/Third Gender |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One paper | ₹1,000 | ₹800 | ₹900 | ₹800 | ₹500 |
| Multiple eligible papers | ₹2,000 | ₹1,600 | ₹2,000 | ₹1,600 | ₹1,000 |
For examination centers outside India, the fee was higher. The exact amount also depended on the paper combination and candidate category. Do not assume these will be the JEE Main 2027 fees. Use them only as a planning reference until NTA releases the 2027 information bulletin.
In 2026, you could pay online using options including:
| Payment method | Availability in 2026 |
|---|---|
| UPI | Yes |
| Credit card | Yes |
| Debit card | Yes |
| Net banking | Yes |
After payment, don't immediately close the browser. First check whether the transaction has been successfully recorded and whether the confirmation page is generated.
During registration, you need to select the appropriate JEE Main paper for yourself. Paper combinations and associated fee rules should be checked carefully in the 2027 bulletin before payment.
| Paper | Program |
|---|---|
| Paper 1 | B.E./B.Tech |
| Paper 2A | B.Arch |
| Paper 2B | B.Planning |
At the time of registration, you are generally asked to select examination cities while completing the application. However, the 2026 system introduced an important restriction: NTA stated that the choice of examination city was restricted to the states associated with your present and permanent addresses. Therefore, don't assume that you will be able to select any city in India for JEE Main 2027. Do not forget to check the city-selection rules in the final notification.
DigiLocker became an important part of the document-verification ecosystem during JEE Main 2026. You could use DigiLocker-related facilities for documents such as:
| Document | DigiLocker use reported in 2026 |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar | Verification/document access |
| Class 10 marksheet | Document verification |
| Class 12 marksheet | Where applicable |
| Disability/UDID certificate | Verification |
| Certain academic certificates | Depending on availability |
The particulars mentioned above are based on the previous year patterns. Please read the upcoming JEE Main 2027 notifications and guidelines for final confirmation. If the 2027 system continues this facility, having your documents available in DigiLocker could make the process smoother.
Once all details have been entered and revised, pay the fee and submit the application. An important thing for you to do at this stage is to download and save the confirmation page. Make sure you keep a record of the following:
The JEE Main 2027 correction window has not been announced yet. NTA is expected to release the correction dates along with the official application schedule and Information Bulletin for JEE Main 2027. Based on the 2026 process, you may get a limited period after registration closes to correct selected details in the application form. In JEE Main 2026, NTA provided correction facilities for selected application details, but not every field could be edited. Therefore, try to carefully review your personal, academic, category and examination details before submitting the 2027 application. The exact editable fields and correction dates for 2027 will be confirmed only through the official NTA notice.
